Contractor Mr. Neil Clarkson puts Nokian Country King to a real test

The size of tractors and other agricultural equipment has increased rapidly in recent years, and so have their hauling and transportation speeds. The story of contractor Mr Neil Clarkson is a good example of the changing requirements for tyres used in agriculture and contracting.

Neil Clarkson's business was established in 1987. It is one of the largest agricultural contractors serving the counties of Hampshire and West Sussex in England. His base is located near Chichester and with the range of contracts he has, requires an exceptional amount of travel on roads.

- We run from 1 to 16-ton solid trailers for eight to nine months per year in heavy and always changing conditions. It's a really big challenge for manufacturers to create a tyre that can last in these circumstances, Mr Clarkson says. He, if anyone, knows what a difference a good tyre can make.

A large range of products gives a good choice

Mr Clarkson has always been innovative and looked for new products and ideas to offer a unique service to his customers. He got his first Nokian heavy tyres when buying a new trailer fitted with Nokian ELS Radial tyres eight years ago. Since then he has always advocated flotation tyres.

- Unfortunatelly, the ELS Radial was not the best solution for such high loads and the amount of road use, he explains.

After trying some other brands for a couple of seasons, local distributor Alan Lindsay introduced him to the new Country King tyre soon after it was launched.

- I was pleased to notice there was a huge improvement, and I decided switch back to Nokian Heavy Tyres, Mr Clarkson recalls.

Country King meets the modern agriculture and contracting needs

To meet customers' changing needs, Nokian Heavy Tyres is constantly developing new products to meet the everincreasing demand for higher loads and speeds. The Country King has been especially developed for modern agriculture and contracting.

Compared to the ELS Radial, the Country King has better high-load-bearing capacity, puncture resistance and on-road driving properties. Thanks to its directional pattern, it is also more quiet and has good self-cleaning qualities.

- I have had four sets of Country King so far. They are stable with very good sideways strength. If my drivers are given a task that requires a trailer, they will always hitch up to one on Country Kings. I have also been pleased with the service I have received, Mr Clarkson says.
