Tyre pressure
The inflation pressure depends on the load which the tyre must bear.Other factors affecting the inflation pressure:
- Driving speed of the machine
- Power/traction capacity of the machine
- Terrain; in steeply inclined terrain, the load is shifted on certain tyres
- Stability of the machine when using equipment that shifts its centre of gravity, such as hoists, harvester heads or cutters.
A tyre is a pressure vessel
A machine tyre is a pressure vessel. When the tyre explodes or the rim of a pressurised tyre becomes defective, a large amount of energy is released momentarily. This can have severe consequences for workers.A typical accident involving heavy tyres arises when the rim’s lock ring suddenly flies off and hits the tyre mechanic. In order to prevent such accidents, various safety cages are used during tyre inflation. The cages alleviate the pressure-related consequences of explosions and prevent parts from flying around.
